WISP Judo move into their new home.

After several years in the Community Education Centre, Wisp Judo are moving around the corner to the council-run St Mellons Community Hub 'The Hyb'.

Our new venue will have such luxuries as changing rooms, a café, and wifi for parents to live Tweet about their children's progress!

Roy Court awarded MBE in Queen's new year's honours

We are immensely proud of our head coach, Roy, who has been honoured for his dedication and devotion to making the sport of judo accessible to all.

Not content with simply running a judo club, Roy has made it a particular focus of his to ensure that judo can be enjoyed by anyone.

Dan Grade Promotions

A huge congratulations to Milton, Roddy, Craig and Tommy on completing their dan grade theory.

Milton, Roddy & Craig are now black belts with Tommy having just attained 1st kyu and now only needing to amass competition points or win his line up once he is eligible to grade again.

WISP Coaches gain their level one qualification

June 23, 2017

Following a series of training courses including first aid, child safeguarding, disability awareness and a British Judo coaching course, as well as delivering a number of practice classes culminating in their final evaluation on Saturday at Carmarthen Judo Club, four of our regular coaching assistants are now fully qualified level one judo coaches.

Katie, Gary, Tom and Steve now have the skills and support framework to progress their own teaching styles, complementing the classes delivered by our existing senior coaches, Roy, Rod, Kirsty and Milton.

WISP Judo to become a Super Club

Wisp judo is in the process of becoming a SUPER SPORTS CLUB in the city of Cardiff.

Sport Cardiff have nominated 6 clubs in Cardiff, from various sports, who are running sessions in their communities regardless of disability or ethnic origin.

These are fully inclusive clubs.

WISP JUDO are one of these 6 clubs.

This honour will enable us to expand and get help through advertising and receive discount on courses plus many other benefits.

WISP Judo now an insport Bronze club

Recognising Wisp Judo's commitment to inclusion and for providing sporting opportunities for disabled people in Wales, Disability Sport Wales presented the club with their bronze insport award.

Disability Sports Wales Inclusion Course

March 31, 2017

Five of our coaches / volunteers participated on the Disability Sports Wales/UK inclusion course this Sunday.


Five more will be on the course on 30 April, after which Wisp judo will be eligible for the DSW insport silver standard, the club already being the proud holders of the bronze standard.

The participants worked with the course tutors and a number of other delegates from around south Wales on ideas for making club activities as inclusive as possible.

Roy Court DSW Lifetime Achievement Award

At the Disability Sport Wales awards, the winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award was WISP's head coach Roy Court.

 

Roy has dedicated his life to making sure that people of all abilities can share his passion for judo. Congratulations Roy, a deserving winner!
